Born in Shropshire of part Cornish parentage, John lived and worked in Shropshire and adjoining counties, until he retired and moved to Cornwall in 2009.

Largely self-taught with no formal art background or training, John has painted since childhood,  although only on retirement was he able to develop what had become almost a forgotten hobby.

John has long been fascinated by beaches, tides and coast lines generally, mainly finding inspiration on the coasts of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

John has used water colours and acrylics, but prefers using oils, which he finds suits his style of working, which is mainly of coastal images, seascapes and marine paintings, with an occasional landscape.

John is a member of the East Cornwall Society of Artists, exhibiting his work at the Society’s Ebenezer Gallery at Polperro Cornwall, and has had a number of annual one man exhibitions at the Red Store Lerryn Nr. Lostwithiel Cornwall, which are usually arranged in late summer to early autumn.
